Back in October, I was guided by Archangel Michael to understand manifestations in greater depth by reading about the Hermetic principles. I was told that whatever I knew about the law of attraction (LOA) was only a fraction of the whole truth. Whatever I knew about ‘shadow work’, projections, and ‘we attract what we are (LOA)” was radically upturned, and new grounds were prepared. In my upcoming posts, I will share bit by bit whatever was shared with me about manifestations. But the foundations first! You need to know what the 7 hermetic principles are before I even begin to explain how they work in the universe and how they affect your manifestations.
About the hermetic principles:
To acquaint yourself with the hermetic principles in depth, I would reluctantly recommend the book – The Kybalion. I say reluctantly because I honestly found it horrible to read. But there aren’t any other reliable sources available on it and Kyballion sums it up really well. I have never had so much difficulty reading a book – it was like finding a needle in a haystack. I have to read tons of texts about why humanity is lame or unnecessary complications of simpler things before the hermetic principle is revealed, explained, or discussed. Not to mention the book has quotes from his own book lol. Who does that, seriously? I guess its partly also because authors of older times wrote things in complicated English and I do not subscribe to that form of writing anymore. I don’t know how I read & understood books by Swami Vivekananda so easily in my teenage (I will cry if I have to read those books again now). I lost interest somewhere in between and will try to resume to finish what I started.
The Hermetic Principles are deeply rooted in the mystical and philosophical traditions attributed to Hermes Trismegistus, a figure believed to be a syncretic blend of the Greek god Hermes and the Egyptian god Thoth. The history of the Hermetic Principles is intertwined with the development of Hermeticism, an esoteric spiritual philosophy that emerged during the Hellenistic period (circa 3rd century BCE to 3rd century CE).
The Origins of the Hermetic Principles
- Egyptian Roots: Thoth as the God of Wisdom
- Thoth was the ancient Egyptian god of writing, knowledge, and wisdom. He was often depicted as an ibis-headed deity and revered as the scribe of the gods.
- Thoth was regarded as the originator of written language, mathematics, astronomy, and laws of creation. These texts were believed to include laws of the universe, which would later influence Hermetic philosophy.
- Hellenistic Fusion: Hermes Trismegistus
- During the Hellenistic period, when Greek and Egyptian cultures merged, Hermes Trismegistus emerged as a composite figure, blending attributes of Thoth (Egyptian) and Hermes (Greek). Both deities shared roles as messengers, teachers, and guides to higher knowledge.
- The Hermetic texts, such as the Corpus Hermeticum and Emerald Tablet, were attributed to Hermes Trismegistus. These texts explore profound spiritual truths, alchemy, astrology, and the unity of all things, encapsulating what are now known as the Hermetic Principles.
The 7 Hermetic principles:
- The Principle of Mentalism
- “The All is Mind; The Universe is Mental.”
“The All (God, Source, All That is, etc) creates the universe MENTALLY, in a manner akin to the process whereby MAN creates Mental Images…The All creates universes in its own mentality. But your universe is the mental creation of a finite mind, whereas that of the ALL is a creation of an infinite.” (quoted from The Kyballion). The universe itself is akin to a mental creation, and our thoughts influence our reality.
- “The All is Mind; The Universe is Mental.”
- The Principle of Correspondence
- “As above, so below; as below, so above.”
There is harmony and correspondence between all planes of existence (physical, mental, spiritual). Patterns repeat across different dimensions, suggesting that understanding one plane of existence helps in understanding others. (P.S: This is also why it is said you are created in the image of God because the principles that govern the creation of your body are the same as the creation of the universe. More on this later).
- “As above, so below; as below, so above.”
- The Principle of Vibration
- “Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates.”
Everything in the universe is in constant motion, vibrating at its own frequency. These vibrations dictate the form and substance of all things, with different frequencies leading to different manifestations of matter, thoughts, and energy.
- “Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates.”
- The Principle of Polarity
- “Everything is Dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites.”
Everything has an opposite, but opposites are just extremes of the same thing, with varying degrees between them. Understanding polarity allows one to transmute negative thoughts into positive ones by shifting perspectives.
- “Everything is Dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites.”
- The Principle of Rhythm
- “Everything flows, out and in; everything has its tides; all things rise and fall.”
There is a natural rhythm or cycle to all things, including seasons, emotions, and life events. This principle helps to understand the inevitability of change and how to use it to one’s advantage by mastering the ebb and flow.
- “Everything flows, out and in; everything has its tides; all things rise and fall.”
- The Principle of Cause and Effect
- “Every Cause has its Effect; every Effect has its Cause.”
Nothing happens by chance; there are underlying causes for everything. Understanding this principle helps one become a ’causer’ rather than an ‘effect,’ allowing greater control over life’s outcomes.
- “Every Cause has its Effect; every Effect has its Cause.”
- The Principle of Gender
- “Gender is in everything; everything has its Masculine and Feminine Principles.”
This principle is about the dual forces of masculine and feminine energies present in everything, beyond just the biological context. It highlights the creative power of these energies and how they work together for creation and manifestation.
- “Gender is in everything; everything has its Masculine and Feminine Principles.”
Now that you have some understanding of the hermetic principles, next up, I will go a little deeper into the principle of polarity to set the grounds for understanding manifestations & LOA. And then share Green Tara’s channeling on Karma which is tied to this. Stay tuned!
